Dear friends,

This month, let me introduce you to Isabelle Poupinel.  A highly experienced artist creating china design, she started out at the famous “Manufacture de Sèvres” and is specialized in handmade and measure-made works of art.

The objects she creates are clean style or with elaborated design, contemporary or classic, sensible or wild, everyday life or real pieces of art.

Looking at the work she does and eventually touching the objects she creates, you are filled with emotion and delicacy, the unalterable French Touch still exists.

She secretly works on us to surprise and please.

Now I let you discover her…

See you very soon !

Ten lovely  questions to Isabelle:

1.What were the upbeats of your career ?

When I started les Beaux Arts in Toulouse (2 years) after graduating from highschool and later in the “ Arts Decoratifs” school in Paris ( grafic designer), I discovered I had a talent for china painting.

Some clients in London that were very hard to please helped me progress a lot in china painting (I spent 8 years in London).

The urge to become the manager of my own business (to transcend the artist’s position).

My encounter with the material (china, sandstone) and the training course I started and which is still in progress with a fascinating master.

When I joined the French Art Workshop (M&O and seminaries, professional programmes of the utmost quality)

2. What are your sources of inspiration?

Everything is a source of curiosity.  As a grafic designer, I scan everything that comes within the field of my vision and I make it my own picture, in 3D : nature, an atmosphere, objects, architecture, exhibitions, people, words, readings…

3. You feel close to …

To nature but also cities, sportsmen and women, creative energies of all sorts, Kandinsky (his painting and writings : a masterpiece !), synergies, my teenage kids… Here is what spontaneously comes to my mind.

4. Your favourite work of arts

Kandinsky as I mentioned before.

5. A magic place for you

A remote family place in Brittany and another one in Patagonia.

Artists’ workshops.

The brain.

6 . Your favourite moment in the day
6 o’clock in the morning (everything is quiet) except the animals in the woods (I go running) and 7 in the evening which I call “ the soft hour” (the clock at the Beaux Arts school in Toulouse was strangely stuck at that hour, morning, evening who knows ? : time for a glass of wine, for a break, for another working cycle or just to relax.
7. A sentence or an expression that moves you.

From Edith Piaf, “Non rien de reien, je ne regrette rien”(No, nothing, I don’t regret a thing…).

8. You’ve got a soft spot for…

I think it is my enormous passion for food products, for cooking and the creative way it arises senses. The fact that it’s important to share meals (with family, friends, for business and love…)

9. Do you collect something?

Since I was a student and I started doing my shopping in markets, I have collected the papers that wrap fruits (such as lemon and oranges). I even made removable boards out of them that I put in the toilets at home… It’s super pop and very interesting  as far as geography and fabrication are concerned.

10. What are your futur plans?

I have a lot of plans, too many. One of them is to keep working with you, and go a step further.

Special question: In what way do you find Lovely Surprise® inspiring?

The feeling that it is a pleasure for both the creator and LovelySurprise, for both the person who makes the gift and for the one who gets it.

The fact (and it doesn’t happen that often), that there is no limit (and yet, everything is under control) and this is rare.
