I’m very happy today to present Corinne MEUNIER.I’ve recently met her in Paris at the last «Salon Maison et objets», at the Art Trade Space.
Born near Lyon, it is her grandmother, an embroideress, who gave her the very early manual basis of her future passion.
In the 90ies, she began to draw her first costumes, and as the sportswoman that she also is, she was a member of the Twirling team for 15 years.
She completed her training in fashion design with a complete cycle of Haute Couture embroidering at the François LESAGE School. There she worked on the costumes of Philippe CANDELORO (our French national figure skater).
She has competed in many shows and won various awards. Last year, she created her own compagny FLAMBOYANCE. Now she designs and makes fineries for weddings, hats and embroidered Haute Couture accessories.
On March 8th 2011, Women’s day, she participated in a fashion show on the Champs Elysees, a very colorful one by the creator Eva GABARRA.
Smiling and passionate, her fairy fingers perpetuate our traditions.
I let you discover her work,
I’ll see you again in April!
Have a lovely month,
Mademoiselle Viviane-Lucie
I used to stay at my grand-mother’s on Wednesdays when I was a child. She taught me needle work, embroidering, knitting and sewing and I think this is how my carrier started. I began to develop a taste for manual work. Later I got a degree in fashion design and I specialized in Haute Couture embroidery at François Lesage school : I wanted to be able to give shape to all the ideas that came to my mind..
2. What are your sources of inspiration?
To give shape to all my ideas, I do very thourough research work and get my inspiration from all the events around me (exhibitions, fashion shows, books, etc…) It stimulates my creativity and enables me to improve the clothes I make.
I have a passion for beautiful material such as lace, silk, pearls, crystal rhinestone… the very meticulous and fine work of Haute Couture. I am particularly fond of my master’s work, I mean Christian Lacroix.
I love to work on various textures and raised patterns, colour contrasts, shaded tones of paint and all the embellishing techniques.
I need to know specific techniques to be able to create what I have in mind and to give shape to material.
Creating is part of my life, it’s vital to me, I create day after day. It is a way for me to express myself and to feel the world’s sensitivity around me.
3. You feel close to …
I feel close to all the people who create and for whom creating is vital like a real addiction.
4. Your favourite works of art
Vincent van Gogh’s paintings and impressionists in general.
5. A magic place for you
A shop that sells beads.
6. Your favourite moment in the day
Breakfast time when everything is quiet.
7. A sentence or an expression that moves you
I think therefore I am.
8. You have a soft spot for…
Milk chocolate.
9. Do you collect something?
Thimbles.
10. What are your plans for the future?
I would like to promote my work and present it to a large number of people. I would also like to share my passion for embroidery with the ones who love handmade work.
